A tough time in an even tougher place
Days were defined by Antarctic winds, back-breaking work, untameable weather, and dealing with a bunch of convicts and misfits. Life was anything but easy.
So it’s no surprise these circumstances bred a unique type of man. One that had a bucket load of strength and a fist full of courage. One that saw a problem and just went about fixing it. And one that was happy to boldly step up to whatever challenges old Mother Nature threw their way.
Brewed strong, Mercury was the drink that these men drank.
Cider from a Harder Time.
The story of Mercury began when Leslie Murdoch, a Bookkeeper and Overseer, teamed up with some French wine makers, to create the Tasmanian Cider Company. A large cider factory was set up in an old convict-built warehouse on Hobart’s docks.
100 years have passed, and so have many types of Mercury Cider – from Van-Diemens Sparkling, to Celebration, to Hard Cider available in half gallon flagons. Today, we continue to make Hard Cider, Genuine Draught Cider and Dry Cider.
Mercury - Cider from a Harder Time.
Mercury Genuine Draught is a classic style cider with a slightly darker hue. This product has a perfect balance between the sweetness of cider and the sharpness of the apple.
Mercury Hard Cider has a light golden appearance with a fresh, yet delicate and subdued, lingering aroma of apples. Mercury Hard Cider is inspired by traditional ‘hard ciders’. Mercury Hard Cider is full flavoured with a smooth finish. Serve chilled.
Mercury Dry has a fruity, apple cider flavour with a cleansing dry aftertaste.
